John Murray's nephew, James Teit who had been invited to B.C. to help operate his uncle's store, instead became a guide, leading expeditions as far north as Babine Lake. His knowledge of native peoples was extensive, and throughout his short life of 58 years, he made extraordinary contributions to the ethnology of native peoples of the interior of B.C.
