Joseph Smith

With his partner Tom Marshall, Smith bought the Clinton Hotel in 1868, and enlarged it shortly after. Smith instituted the famous Clinton Ball held in the hotel, which usually lasted for three nights, a tradition which lasted until 1958, when the hotel burned down.
