The name confirms the presence of Chinese miners at this point on the Fraser River which was just beyond Spuzzum (the site for a suspension bridge across the Fraser) It was Sgt.William McColl and the Royal Engineers who worked on the road. Joseph Trutch, road contractor built the Alexandra Bridge in 1863. This bridge was destroyed in 1915, with a second bridge built in the 1920s "History of B.C." Vol. 2 By F.W. Howay & E. O. S. Scholefield, p.100.
