These cardboard hats were given away as souvenirs on the inaugural run of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway from Squamish to Vancouver on August 27, 1956. The collection also includes a silk tie with the legend "All Aboard for Prince George," worn by Alex Fraser in 1952 when the line was extended to Prince George. Fraser was Quesnel's longest serving Mayor and later became an M.P.P and Minister of Transportation. This train was loaded with "Old Timers" who were invited to enjoy the inaugural ride. Florence Lindsay passed around a small notebook to collect the autograph of everyone on board and many noted when they had come to the Cariboo and some key experiences. These are examples of some of the more ephemeral items that are preserved by the museum which document important historical events.
